Company interview guide
Tech Mahindra interview process and practice questions
Tech Mahindra, part of the Mahindra Group, is known for its telecom and communications work alongside wider IT services. Its fresher hiring in India is commonly reported as an online assessment followed by technical and HR interviews; candidates often say the test has aptitude, English and technical sections, sometimes with a short essay, and that interviews centre on basics, projects and how clearly you communicate.
As candidates commonly report it; it varies by team, level and year. Last reviewed 18 October 2026.

- The habit you've changed since
Role and technical questions
Explain the OSI model briefly, and say which layers a router and a switch work at.
A good answer covers
- The seven layers in order, with one example each (such as IP at network, TCP at transport)
- A switch works mainly at the data link layer using MAC addresses
- A router works at the network layer using IP addresses to move traffic between networks
In plain words, what is 5G, and what changes for a mobile operator's network?
A good answer covers
- Faster speeds, lower delay and many more connected devices than 4G
- New uses it allows, such as connected factories or remote monitoring
- What operators need: new radio equipment, more software-run networks, more data to manage
What is the difference between a compiler and an interpreter?
A good answer covers
- A compiler translates the whole program before it runs; an interpreter runs it line by line
- Effects on speed, error reporting and portability
- Examples, and how Java or Python mix both approaches
How would you explain an API to a customer who isn't technical?
A good answer covers
- A simple picture, such as a waiter taking orders between you and the kitchen
- A real example the customer uses, such as a payment or map in an app
- Why it matters to them: systems can share data without being rebuilt
After an app update, login fails for some users but not others. How would you narrow it down?
A good answer covers
- Finding what the failing users share: device, app version, region, account type
- Checking logs and error messages for those users
- Rolling back or hot-fixing, then confirming with affected users
For experienced candidates: walk me through a release you delivered, from requirement to production.
A good answer covers
- The requirement and who it was for
- Your part in design, build, testing and deployment
- One problem along the way and how the team handled it
Why Tech Mahindra? Fit and HR questions
Introduce yourself and tell me what you're looking for in your first job.
A good answer covers
- Your degree, strongest skills and one project, briefly
- What you want from a first job: the kind of work and what you hope to learn
- Why this company fits that, in under two minutes
Why Tech Mahindra?
A good answer covers
- Something specific: its telecom and communications work, another industry it serves, or recent news
- How that matches your interests or skills
- What you hope to learn there in the first few years
Are you open to working in any technology or domain at the start, including support roles?
A good answer covers
- An honest yes, with any preference stated politely
- Why early support or testing work can teach you a lot
- How you'd keep building the skills you most want
Do you have any questions for us?
A good answer covers
- One or two thoughtful questions about training, the first project or the team
- Nothing already answered on the careers site
- A brief thank-you
Tips
- Practise a short essay with a clear opening, two points and a conclusion; some drives include written English.
- For network or telecom-related roles, revise OSI layers, IP addressing and basic mobile-network terms.
- Speak slowly and clearly: candidates say communication is judged in every round, not only in the test.
- Treat any request for a fee, or an offer sent over a messaging app, as a warning sign; confirm offers through the official careers portal.
- Tech Mahindra describes its values as Integrity, Quality and Care; prepare a short story for each.
Practise it out loud
