Policybazaar interview process and practice questions
Policybazaar, part of PB Fintech along with Paisabazaar, is an online marketplace where people compare and buy insurance; Paisabazaar does the same for loans and credit cards. Candidates commonly report coding and design rounds for engineering and data roles, and for its many sales and advisory roles, conversations or role-plays that test communication, persuasion and how honestly you explain products.

Behavioral questions
Tell me about a time you persuaded someone who was hesitant. What made them change their mind?
A good answer covers
- Why they hesitated, in their words
- How you listened and answered the real concern
- The outcome, and whether it was right for them
Describe a time you told a customer something that cost you a sale.
A good answer covers
- What you told them and why it mattered
- The pressure you felt to stay quiet
- What happened afterwards, including any trust it built
Tell me about a time you faced a lot of rejection or pressure and kept going.
A good answer covers
- The situation and how long it lasted
- What you did to stay steady and improve
- The result
Tell me about a target you missed. What did you learn?
A good answer covers
- The target and how far off you were
- The real reasons, without blaming others
- What you changed and how the next period went
Role and technical questions
Explain the difference between term insurance and a savings-linked life insurance policy to a 25-year-old.
A good answer covers
- Term pays only on death within the term; savings plans add a maturity payout
- Why term gives much more cover for the same premium
- Who might prefer each, explained without pressure
Explain a waiting period and a co-payment in health insurance, in plain words.
A good answer covers
- Waiting period: a time after buying before some conditions are covered
- Co-payment: the share of a claim the customer pays themselves
- An everyday example of how each affects a claim
How would you design a comparison page that shows quotes from many insurers quickly and fairly?
A good answer covers
- Calling insurer systems in parallel with timeouts and short-lived caching
- Comparing like with like: cover, exclusions and claim terms, not just price
- Neutral ranking and clear labels, and re-checking the premium before payment
Many users get a quote but don't buy. How would you find out why, and what would you try?
A good answer covers
- Funnel steps after the quote: details, medical questions, payment
- Splitting by product, age group, device and source
- Ideas to test, such as advisor callbacks or clearer comparisons, with a success metric
A customer's claim was rejected and they're angry on the phone. How would you handle the call?
A good answer covers
- Listening fully and acknowledging how they feel
- Finding the stated reason and checking it against the policy
- Explaining next steps honestly: appeal, documents, timelines
How would you design a system that routes incoming leads to the right advisor at the right time?
A good answer covers
- Matching on product, language, location and advisor skill
- Speed: calling back quickly while the customer is interested
- Fair load across advisors and measuring conversion and satisfaction
How would you check whether a credit card recommendation feature is actually helping users, not just getting clicks?
A good answer covers
- Outcomes: approvals, cards actually used, user satisfaction
- Comparing against a control group
- Guardrails: rejections and complaints from poor matches
Sell me a health insurance policy as if I'm buying one for the first time.
A good answer covers
- Asking questions first: age, family, existing cover, budget, health
- Recommending a fit and explaining key terms, including exclusions
- Handling an objection without overpromising
Why Policybazaar? Fit and HR questions
Why Policybazaar, and why insurance or fintech?
A good answer covers
- What interests you about helping people buy financial products
- Something specific about how Policybazaar works
- What you'd want to build or achieve in the role
Are you comfortable with a target-based role? What keeps you motivated on a hard day?
A good answer covers
- An honest view of targets and pressure
- A real habit or source of motivation
- Any past experience with targets
Tips
- Learn insurance basics: term versus savings plans, health cover terms (sum insured, waiting period, co-pay, claim settlement) and riders.
- In sales role-plays, ask questions first (age, family, existing cover, budget), then recommend.
- Never overpromise in a role-play; explaining exclusions shows the honesty a good interviewer listens for.
- For tech and product roles, think about comparing many insurer quotes quickly and keeping prices accurate.
Practise it out loud
A mock interview asks the way Policybazaar's interviewers are known to, follows up on your answers and gives you a report. The warm-up is free, needs no account and checks five of these questions as you answer.
