Intuit interview process and practice questions

Intuit makes TurboTax, QuickBooks, Credit Karma and Mailchimp, and its careers site describes final interviews built around a 'craft demonstration': you present a solution or case to members of the hiring team, then meet assessors, a team member and a manager. Intuit publishes five operating values, such as Customer Obsession and Courage, and candidates commonly report interviewers listening for them.

As candidates commonly report it; it varies by team, level and year. Last reviewed 18 October 2026.

The interview process

  1. 1Recruiter screen
  2. 2Online coding assessment or technical screen for many engineering roles
  3. 3Interview set-up: engineers often get time to work on a technical problem before presenting it
  4. 4Craft demonstration: present your solution or case to several members of the hiring team
  5. 5Assessors interview that digs into your skills and your case
  6. 6Team member interview on values and the environments where you do your best work
  7. 7Manager interview on motivation, successes and lessons

What interviewers listen for

  • Integrity Without Compromise
  • Customer Obsession
  • Stronger Together
  • Courage
  • We Care And Give Back
  • Clear problem solving that you can present and defend

Behavioral questions

  1. Tell me about a time you fell in love with a customer's problem rather than your first solution.

    A good answer covers

    • How you learned what the customer really struggled with
    • The first idea you let go of, and why
    • What you built instead and how it helped them
  2. Tell me about a bold decision you made at work. How did it turn out?

    A good answer covers

    • Why it was bold: the risk and who doubted it
    • How you reduced the risk and moved quickly
    • The result, good or bad, and what you learned
  3. Tell me about a time you did the right thing when it would have been easier not to.

    A good answer covers

    • The situation and the easier option
    • What you did and what it cost you
    • Why trust mattered more, and how it turned out
  4. Tell me about a time a teammate's different view changed your decision.

    A good answer covers

    • Your original view and theirs
    • How you listened and tested their point
    • The better decision and what it taught you about diverse views

Role and technical questions

  1. How would you present a technical solution to a panel: framing the problem, showing your work and handling questions?

    A good answer covers

    • Starting with the problem and your approach before the details
    • Showing the key part of the code or design, not all of it
    • Naming trade-offs and what you'd do with more time, then inviting questions
  2. How would you design a system that imports a small business's bank transactions each day and sorts them into categories?

    A good answer covers

    • Connecting securely to banks and handling missing or late data
    • Categorising with rules first, then learning from the user's corrections
    • Avoiding duplicate transactions and keeping a clear audit trail
  3. Traffic to a tax-filing product spikes sharply before a filing deadline. How would you prepare the service?

    A good answer covers

    • Estimating the peak from past seasons and load testing early
    • Scaling the busy parts and protecting the critical path, such as submitting a return
    • Freezing risky changes before the peak and having a rollback plan
  4. How would you protect customers' financial data in an app, from sign-in to storage?

    A good answer covers

    • Strong sign-in: multi-factor authentication and secure sessions
    • Encryption in transit and at rest, and least-privilege access
    • Logging, monitoring and a plan for responding to a breach
  5. A customer says their invoice totals don't match their own records. How would you investigate?

    A good answer covers

    • Getting a specific example and reproducing it
    • Checking rounding, taxes, currency and edits made after sending
    • Fixing it for the customer and checking whether others are affected
  6. How would you test whether a new onboarding flow helps small businesses get started faster?

    A good answer covers

    • Defining 'started': the first invoice sent or the first account connected
    • An A/B test with guardrails such as support contacts or drop-offs
    • How long to run it and what result would change the decision

Why Intuit? Fit and HR questions

  1. Why Intuit? Which of its products have you used, and what would you improve?

    A good answer covers

    • A reason tied to Intuit's customers or products
    • A real experience with a product, or a close look at one
    • One improvement and who it would help
  2. Which of Intuit's values do you relate to most, and when have you acted on it?

    A good answer covers

    • One value, named once
    • A short example from your own work
    • Why it matters to you
  3. What kind of team environment helps you do your best work?

    A good answer covers

    • Specific conditions: feedback, ownership, pace, collaboration
    • An example of when you did your best work and why
    • How you help create that environment for others

Tips

  • Treat the craft demonstration as a short presentation: a brief intro about you, the problem, your approach, the trade-offs and what you'd do next.
  • If you get set-up time before the demo, get your tools working first, then solve the core of the problem before polishing it.
  • Expect the assessors to follow up on your case; know why you chose each approach and what you'd change with more time.
  • Learn Intuit's five operating values and prepare a short story for each.
  • Bring questions about the team and career growth to the manager interview.

Practise it out loud

A mock interview asks the way Intuit's interviewers are known to, follows up on your answers and gives you a report. The warm-up is free, needs no account and checks five of these questions as you answer.
